Ronald McDonald House has always placed a high priority on cleanliness because of the nature of its patient families, but the COVID-19 pandemic has required even more precautions. To limit interaction, all common spaces are closed, and they have suspended their volunteer program. Instead, Ronald McDonald House delivers meals and games to families’ rooms.
Keeping Families Close
RMHC serves millions of children and their families each year, but more need our help. Yet, simply because we don’t have enough sleeping rooms around the world, 138,000+ families are turned away each year. Your donation can help us to expand to fulfill the needs of more sick children and their families. Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Cincinnati has been supporting families from around the world for nearly 40 years. To date, we have welcomed more than 37,000 families into our Home.

Since many of these patients have complicated illnesses, the average stay at Cincinnati’s Ronald McDonald House is around 60 days. We are a home for critically-ill children and their families. They travel from around the world in need of expert medical care in Cincinnati. We welcome them with home-cooked meals, a comfortable bed to rest and a support system of staff, volunteers and other families who know what they are going through. Financial donations enable us to support families when they need it most. We also welcome corporate and social groups to prepare and serve a meal for our families through our Taste of Hope program. We also have regular and single-day volunteer opportunities available. Attendance/sponsorship at our fundraising events is also a popular way to support our House while having a great time!
Our 177 bedroom House provides private bedrooms, delicious meals, indoor and outdoor play areas, comfortable living rooms, games and activities, and much more. Cincinnati Children’s is the third ranked children’s hospital in the country and one of the best pediatric hospitals in the world. As a result, the medical center attracts some of the sickest patients from countries around the globe who travel here for care and need places to stay.
Our 177 bedroom House is the largest Ronald McDonald House in the world. Ronald McDonald House broke ground on the expansion in September 2018, and the nonprofit will host its grand opening—a virtual celebration—on Monday, November 30. The 7-floor addition adds 99 rooms to the Ronald McDonald House, creating a total of 177 rooms for patient families.

The nonprofit provides lunch and dinner for its families every day, so they don’t have to worry about preparing or buying food. While the program is suspended to reduce the number of visitors to the House, there are still ways for volunteers to help support the meal program. When you give a gift to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Cincinnati, you are helping families from around the world stay close to their critically ill child. Our House and our Cincinnati community will be their “home-away-from-home” as they face the biggest challenges of their lives.
Volunteering at our House is both a rewarding and challenging responsibility. Family Support Services (FSS) provides compassionate emotional support, education, and resources to the families and staff of the Ronald McDonald House. We are available to you seven days a week, 24 hours a day, every day of the year even after you leave the house and return home.
The nonprofit has a wish list with toys and other items that families will be able to select for the holidays. The list also includes items Ronald McDonald House needs to operate, such as cleaning products and hand sanitizer. Our Family Rooms provide an oasis for parents and caregivers inside the hospital, giving them a chance to sleep, shower, and connect with other families just steps away from their child's hospital bed. As a GSV, you will help our families by working the front desk, in the kitchen, cleaning rooms, organizing donations, driving our shuttle or maintenance around the House.
